Founded in 2008 by Carol Ho and Mei Ann Teo, Mahjong Pictures is an independent film production and editorial company based in Los Angeles and working internationally. Our film production division has directed and produced a variety of projects: narrative films, documentaries, and film marketing content. Experienced in all stages of creative, we are also a one-stop shop for post production including: editorial, motion graphic design, music scoring, and post supervision services.

CAROL HO – Co-Founder, Producer, Director & Editor

CarolH_1LargeBorn and raised in Singapore, Carol Ho is the co-founder of Mahjong Pictures. She has directed and produced a number of films, notably Stop All The Clocks, a controversial feature documentary about a Californian mother who accidentally left her baby in the car on a hot summer day, thereby causing its death by hyperthermia. Carol also directed a short film produced by Mahjong Pictures called Not Here, which screened at the Montreal World Film Festival 2009, among other major film festivals. Not Here was broadcast on MNET, an Asian American television network that showcases the latest trends in Asian Cinema.

Carol has also worked on a short documentary on global ocean conservation called Oceana, in which she directed Emmy Award winning actor, Ted Danson who performed the voice-over.

As an editor, Carol has worked on a wide array of projects, spanning narrative films, documentaries and film marketing content. Her recent work includes Love’s Improvisations, a Middle Eastern feature film produced by Picture Pond Media. The film was nominated for Best Foreign Feature Film at both the 2013 Madrid International Film Festival and the 2013 St. Tropez International Film Festival. Carol was also editing advisor on the feature documentary directed by Lin Li, entitled Three-Five People, which won the FIRPRESCI Prize at the 2003 Yamagata International Documentary Festival.

Carol’s diverse experience extends to her 10 year career in post supervision. She has worked as a post supervisor in the Hollywood film marketing industry to oversee the post-production completion of various film-marketing campaigns. Her projects include The Social Network (TV Spots), Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2 (TV Spots), Breaking Bad (Trailers & TV Spots) and Inside Llewyn Davis (TV Spots).

MEI ANN TEO – Co-founder, Producer & Director

Mei Ann TeoCo-Founder Mei Ann Teo is a Singaporean film and theatre maker based in the United States. She works primarily from personal and communal history in both theatre and film, and believes in making art that is relevant to the world we live in. Through Mahjong Pictures, Mei Ann has made films internationally. In Singapore, she directed Please Listen To Me, a short documentary about youth at risk which is now required screening at the National Institute of Education. She co-made Not Here, a short film about the search for intimacy in the urban jungle of Singapore, which screened at the Montreal World Film Festival 2009, among other major film festivals. Not Here was also broadcast on MNET, an Asian American television network that showcases the latest trends in Asian Cinema. In California, she produced Stop All The Clocks, a controversial feature documentary about a Californian mother who accidentally killed her own child. She has also served in diverse capacities: as the script supervisor on Both, an award winning feature by Solaris Films (International Film Award, Hamburg Lesbian and Gay Film Festival) and the Line Production Manager for Infinite Harp Films’ music videos for Liz Hope, an R&B/Smooth Jazz artist.

As a professional theatre director, Mei Ann has created work and toured internationally since 2001. Directorial credits include: Middle Flight (critically acclaimed world premiere at Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2001- called “an intellectual feast” by Three Weeks, and a “stunning monologue…carefully constructed and paced” by The Scotsman), Lyrics from Lockdown ( “Truly polished, meaningful, and entertaining” by The New York Times), Porcelain (Top Ten List SF BAY TIMES), and Caucasian Chalk Circle, official selection of the Shanghai International Experimental Theatre Festival. Teo also helmed the creation of “Red Books: Our Search for Ellen White”, a controversial documentary theatre production that is “without a doubt a seminal moment in Seventh-day Adventist history” (Welaratna for KQED), and is “going to cause a paradigm shift of large proportions within the Adventist world” (Marcel Carioca). “Red Books” toured California, and the DVD of the play (Mahjong Pictures), has been screened nationwide.
